| These fruit bowls
are carved
from banded onyx (BO) and white onyx (WO). The zoning of this stone makes a natural
picture out of every bowl, it will get a lot of attention at your dinner party! At first you might think that the price tag is a bit steep. But you see the value as soon as you understand that 30 pounds of semiprecious onyx in the size 12.5" x 12.5" x 4.5" is needed for a bowl, and realize the painstaking work and time spent on carving, turning and polishing (to mirror finish) 30 pounds of hardness 7 material into a bowl shown below! Besides, the bigger and thinner the bowl, the higher the rejection rate. One word of caution though: please don't use it as salad bowls since the acidic salad dressing would gradually roughen the inner surface and make it dull; and do not allow the fruit to rot |
