Certain regions in eastern China are well known for their beautiful soapstone. For
thousands of years, stone carving has been a traditional art as well as a respectable
profession in these areas.Sculptors are advised to meditate before they start. The actual carving involves a continuous process of designing, exploration, carving, redesigning, and refining. As a result, each final piece is a unique combination of the quality and characteristics of the stone itself as well as the imagination and skill of the sculptor who created it.
