Japanese Garden Pagodas
 |
Stone pagodas or towers, derived from
Indian studas, were used to add a spiritual atmosphere in early days. Today they are
a purely decorative element in Japanese gardens.
Placed near tsukubai (water basin), bridges, ponds or streams, a
pagoda draws attention, creates space, provides artful contrast to the variety of
elements, and adds perspective to the landscape. Taller pagodas are often seen atop
artificial miniature hills.
The light chambers represent earth, waters, sky
and so on. They sits on four lion legs representing
strength. On the top, the nine rings are symbols of nine heavens
in the buddhist pantheon. The lotus on the very top is a
representation of the buddha. The 13-storied pagodas are of more
contemporary design.
Pagodas put reflecting properties of water to good
use. They offer spiritual advice, guard the entrance, and guide
footsteps. When plan your garden, take care to place the pagodas
and lanterns where they are meaningful to you.
We offer three, five and thirteen storied pagodas shown below.
Listed below are some standard sizes, we can also do custom sizes upon
your request. For Lanterns
